But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is. In this remarkable final installment of the Nightshade trilogy, international bestselling author Andrea Cremer crafts a dynamic novel with twists and turns that will keep you breathless until its final pages.

My Review:

Honestly I am not even sure how to start this review. I unexpectantly fell inlove with this series. It took me a while to warm up to Calla but every book in this trilogy just sucks you in deeper. The story has everything from love, friendship, loyalty, betrayal and heartache to war, plotting and battles to the death.

Characters: 4/5

Calla  - From Wolfsbane I adored Calla and I enjoyed her just as much in Bloodrose. Calla grew throughout this series beautifully. Even though she was caught in a love triangle - she kept her head as level and as clear as she could being a girl torn in love and an Alpha - Calla took her role very seriously.

Ren & Shay - I am and forever will be Team Ren! Shay did grow on me throughout the book and I do like him, I have always just had a soft spot Ren. Both characters are worthy to be an Alpha and Calla's true mate. I enjoyed the rivalry and bonding at the various parts of the story.

The Searchers - What a great bunch of characters. We start off believing they are the enemies to them becoming our friends and allies throughout the adventure.

The pack - the pack politics had my heart twisting throughout the book. I loved the every single one of them.

Plot, Pace, Writing style 4/5
Andrea certainly keeps you on the edge throughout Bloodrose. I literally could not put this book down. I laughed and cried throughout this series. The plot is brilliantly. I loved the twists that were weaved into the story and Andrea's writing style is easy to fall into. There was one twist that had my heart aching so much and I totally cannot believe that Andrea went there! I can't even mention who it involves without giving away a spoiler but really!!!

I can't say I loved the ending - it lacked a bit of ooomph in my opinion but it was still fitting and beautiful. It wasn't your typical happily every after and I definitely did not see this coming right at the end. Andrea definitely keeps it exciting right up until the end.

The wolves and searchers really kick some keeper butts and the battle at the end is truly epic. Calla finally makes a choice for a mate - both alpha's got to prove themselves and her choice did not occur via default. The epilogue was a beautiful closing chapter.

I did notice reading through reviews that this was either a love it or hate it type of ending. I am one of the rare that fall in the middle *meh*

Cover talk: 5/5 It really is a catching cover! Love it

Final Thoughts: This is a wonderful series and I am so glad I decided (along with Niki Hawkes from The Obsessive bookseller) to give this series a shot as a read-a-long!

My Rating:

Series: Nightshade #3.5
Publisher: Philomel
Publication Date: 31 July 2012
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: 19 pages

Picking up where BLOODROSE left off, this short story delves into the aftermath of the final battle between the Searchers, the Keepers and the Guardians. Adne is haunted by her past actions, Logan is running for his life, and the Searchers still don't feel safe. What they thought was the end of the War of All against All may just be the beginning of something even more sinister...

My Review:

I loved this novella. It left me wanting more and eager to check out the other books in this series. I loved the extra time with Sabine, Ethan, Adne & Connor. Initially when I read the excerpt from Rift at the end of Bloodrose, I wasn't really interested in going on to read the prequel. After reading this novella... I could not wait to pick up Rift, there was just something small that changed my perception.

  1. I absolutely hated the ending of Bloodrose. I still get upset thinking about it. *sniffles* But I loved reading the series back then. Someday I wanna re-read the books. <3

  2. Agh! Need these books soon! Although now I'm hesitant about the ending, I don't want to suffer. Team Shay FTW! :D
