The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. The first Wednesday of every month you can share your worries without judgement and/or your triumphs with complimentary confetti! ;D Join us - it's fun, a great way to connect with fellow writers, and we all can support one another!

Welcome to my very first participation in the Insecure writers support group! I first read about this group on post by the awesome Jennifer @ Donnie Darko Girl and figured it would a great group to join and see how it goes!

I think at this point I don't really feel like a real writer. I have my first draft of my non-fiction book and a storyline plus characters for my fictional paranormal adventure book. Since I started blogging I have been amazed and overwhelmed by how many authors and books there are out there! How will my story get noticed out there among all these amazingly talented people and multi-bestseller books.

In some ways if the story stays in my head... no one can judge it or critique it - but at the same I yearn to share my story with the world. In some ways I procrastinate finishing the story, but I think about the plot and characters ALL THE TIME. I have my character profiles, what they look like, things they do and don't like and quotes they might say somewhere in the draft. I have scenes and lines I want to use somewhere and find news things all the time.

My author inspiration is Cassandra Clare. I often think that she also sat there one day many years ago maybe thinking who would possibly want to read her story - and yet there she is, a best seller series and a movie!

So here it is, my very first IWSG post! What are you fears and doubts? I'd love to hear from you!

  1. I don't feel like a real writer either. I have had a short story published but I just don't see it as that big of a deal. I jus can't get over that maybe my writing isn't that good.

    1. Thank you Jennifer! Well done for even having a short story published :) You should post your short story as a free download on your blog or something - to get some feedback. I think you would be a brilliant writer. Your reviews are always so thorough and you know exactly what you need out of a book! I hope you do pursue writing too :)

  3. Welcome to the IWSG Chanzie! Nice to meet you. I've read most all of Cassandra Clares Books too. I believe all writers have fears and doubt there's not way around it, but persevere, be determined and motivated.

  5. My opinion is that if you want to write and you write, you are a writer. But I totally get that you don't feel like one. I didn't either. I guess I'm getting to the point where I'm trying to lose the labels and just do what I do.Welcome to what is a very supportive, wonderful community of writers here at ISWG.

    1. That is so true Karen! Writers write. that is the be all and end all of it :) Thank you for the gentle reminder of such an important point of writing. I guess we get caught up in the hype of being a 'successful' writer sometimes. Thank you for the warm welcome :)

  6. I think it can be hard to feel confident about our writing, but then I go back to what Stephen King explains in his book, On Writing, that we all are insecure about our writing. That we need to trust the process. Trust that the story will grow as we write it and to trust the story.
we don't have to have it all figured out before we start. We just have to start.

  7. There is a writer in each of us and I think we all feel pretty inadequate about our writing. The nature of the beast... But, Karen is right. Writers write.
Having said that, way to go on the first draft! My novel is still in the "development" phase.

    1. Thank you! And yes there is a writer in each of, the question is who is brave enough to take on the challenge and put out thoughts and work out there. I am sure your novel will be done sooner than you think :) Good luck!

  8. I often suffer that 'how will I get noticed?' feeling. All you have to know is that you are unique, and move on from there. Welcome to the group :-)

    1. Thank you Annalisa :) Write because we need to write! Get it onto paper/the PC and everything will fall into place from there (hopefully and with some hard work).

  9. Welcome to IWSG!!! I really want to encourage you and saw another post today about the Empty jar and what is the jar for (in a writing metaphor way)... it was a good post, but what it reminded me of that I like thinking of the jar as the container... and say... the BUTTERFLY (our stories) have to be let free to thrive. SURE, there is a chance some big bird will EAT THEM, but in the jar they will die without ever having flown... Let them free!!!

    1. Thank you Hart :) I really loved your story about the jar. I will definitely keep that in mind and set my mind full of stories free! Thank you for the encouraging words <3

  10. Welcome to IWSG. I share your fears too. I want to indie publish my book, but worry that nobody will want to read it and what if no one ever knows it exists? But you have a story inside you that you want to share, which is a good sign. Best of luck!

    1. I know exactly what you mean! I hope to find a publisher, even though everyone says you have to go through 20 - 50 rejections before you find the right publisher *sigh* Best of luck to you too!!

  11. If you're thinking about your characters all the time, then you're destined to be a writer. This is definitely the place to share your fears with other writers. Welcome to the IWSG!

  12. First I want to apologize for my lack of comments lately. I'm so sorry! Second, I'm impressed you have a draft completed. I have yet to complete a first draft of anything. I think that is a huge milestone. I can completely relate with you when thinking about how to get your work out there and make it stand out amongst all of the other writers. Just from your blog posts and reviews not to mention the drive you have to make your dream come true and positive outlook you share with me, I have no doubt you're going to make it happen. You have the talent and drive - run with it! :D

I'm happy you joined the IWSG! That's so cool - it's a terrific group, and I remember when Michael Pierce first told me about it. I shudder to think what if I hadn't been introduced to this support.
