Synopsis:
Desperate to honor a life-long promise, Susanna MacEalan escapes her abusive clan with the fierce determination of never falling under the power of a man. Ever.

Aggravated by shallow-hearted pursuing lasses, Robert Brodie, commander of his clan’s elite guard, has foresworn scheming women. Forever.

When magick transforms Brodie Castle into a Christmas wonderland, the two despondent souls find solace in a most unexpected place . . . each other’s arms.

Amid a whirlwind of escalating events, Susanna’s traumatic past threatens Robert’s ability to protect the one woman meant for him. In a harrowing moment, as her fears and demons coalesce, will hope, faith, and love be enough to save them?

My Review:
I was quite excited to review this book, as I helped with the Cover Reveal a little while ago. I have not read book 1 yet, but am hoping to very soon. I was given the option to review Book 1 for this tour as well but could just not fit it into my schedule. Now, after reading this Novella, I really need to read this series!

There were times when the references to book 1 were lost on me, but nothing that took away from the story. I filled in the gaps pretty quickly. Kat creates wonderful, lovable and well-rounded characters.

Characters: 4/5
Susanna - I loved her bravery and strength. She is stubborn but not to the extent that it gets on your nerves. I connected with her easily and understood her character which let me love her even more.

Robert - He is a swoon-worthy hero/highlander. You cannot help fall in love with his nobleness, strength and honour.

Susanna & Robert - It is a bit of a typical storyline - two stubborn individuals sworn off love - meet and everything changes. The best part is that I did not get bored once.

Brigid & Isobel - Brigid is kind and Isobel is strong-willed and so loving. They play smaller roles in this novella but I cannot wait to read their stories in Forged in Dreams and Magick. I truly enjoyed their kinship and presence, and how they lovingly welcomed Susanna.

Plot, Pace, Writing style & Cover: 4/5
The Irish dialect was a bit confusing in the beginning, but I adjusted quickly. Kat's writing style is easy to follow and has a nice pace. I loved the winter castle wonderland Kat created - ultimately she is a great writer and I cannot wait to read the rest of her books. I do wish this story was a bit longer but loved it all the same. I loved the cover - the symbols and theme were brought into the story perfectly.

This was a beautiful, quick and easy read!

  1. How many times have we been through this in real life? When we have someone we love, there is nothing better. When we break up, you don't want to know nothing or no-one for ages (even if you do say FOREVER :)...I don't mind stories that do that, it seems strong from a novella point of view. May give it a go!

  5. Sometimes it is hard to adjust to the dialect and then it takes a lot away from the story, but it's good to see you adjusted quickly. Sounds like a great read!
